On the surface, it may seem like stunning news, but in reality, it was probably the most likely of scenarios. Goaltender Braden Holtby has been assigned to South Carolina (ECHL) now that Michal Neuvirth is ready to go for this weekend's games. As good as Holtby has been (and he was outstanding, with a 1.01 goals against average), the Calder Cup MVP is back and needs to be the number one here. Staying here meant playing very little in comparison to what he would see in North Charleston, which wasn't going to help with Braden's development. Although it's tough on him now, it's very likely for his best interests as well as Hershey's that he play nearly every day down on the farm. Should he be needed, he won't be far away.

ROOKIE GOALIE HEADS TO NORTH CHARLESTON AS BEARS PREPARE FOR THREE-GAME ROAD TRIP STARTING FRIDAY IN ADIRONDACK
HERSHEY – The 2009 Calder Cup Champion HERSHEY BEARS announced today in conjunction with the Washington Capitals that goaltender Braden Holtby has been reassigned from the BEARS to South Carolina (ECHL). The announcement was made today by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.
Holtby, 20, has played in three games for HERSHEY this season, registering a 2-1-0 record and a 1.01 goals against average. The native of Marshall, SK was HERSHEY’S third goaltender during the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs.
The BEARS embark on a three-game road trip Friday at Adirondack against the Phantoms. HERSHEY is next at home on Saturday, October 24 when the Binghamton Senators visit for the first time in 2009-10. Tickets are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
